Today I’m going to spill the beans on my ultimate hair and scalp secret that you already have in your kitchen BUTTER! Yes butter no not shea butter regular butter. It may sound weird to you but butter has been used for hair in Ethiopia for centuries. As a child I would complain when my mom would deep condition my hair with butter. When I grew up I tried numerous commercial deep conditioners but I went back to my African roots once I realized nothing makes my curls pop and scalp sing like butaah baby. Brief history of my hair woes I have very severe scalp psoriasis and butter really helps soothe my tormented scalp.
Today we are doing a souped up version of the original just butter treatment keep in mind this treatment is used on dry hair BEFORE shampooing or conditioning.
Ingredients for Healing Buttery Hair Treatment
1 stick unsalted butter or less (depending on hair length mine is short so I did little more than half)
optional- lavender essential oil (or whatever scent you like if you don’t want to smell butter while it’s on your head. I get mine from whole foods.)
Slightly melt the butter in the microwave then put all ingredients in blender and blend it will turn into a light green whip consistency with some texture. Then add drops of essential oil for scent if using.
My hair and scalp were in dire need of this TLC. I also had head from wearing a bandana all day.
Then put the treatment on your hair and scalp and put a shower cap or plastic bag over it. I usually use a plastic bag, no shame in my game. Then tie a scarf over that to keep it from dripping and to warm it up. Keep it for at least a few hours none of that 15 minute nonsense. I like to go to bed with mine on or do it on a lazy Sunday. Then wash it out with shampoo and conditioner and style per usual.
After my curls were poppin’ and I had zero flakes on my scalp.
