It’s a new year and a lot of people have new years resolutions to eat healthier. I believe that eating clean can be easy and affordable. In the spirit of the new year I will be posting healthy recipes. Today I’ll be sharing my go-to smoothie for breakfast or a quick meal replacement. I usually just free hand my measurements but for the sake of a recipe I measured. Feel free to adjust it to your own taste buds. This smoothie contains a banana, strawberries, blueberries, almond butter, spinach, soy milk, honey and chai seeds.
The antioxidant properties in this smoothie include chai seeds and blueberries. Chai seeds are full of antioxidants and contain fiber, magnesium, zinc, iron, and calcium. They are also a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. I started adding chai seeds to my smoothies after hearing about its anti-inflammatory properties. Blueberries are also full of antioxidants and they can improve short- term memory.
1-cup organic frozen strawberries
1/3-cup organic frozen blueberries
1 tablespoon almond butter (I actually prefer peanut butter you can substitute for any nut butter it’s a healthy fat that keeps you full longer)
2 handfuls spinach (which is the surprise element since you can’t taste it in the smoothie, feel free to use more if you don’t eat a lot of greens)
2 tablespoons chai seeds (The chai seeds are tasteless they turn into a gel like substance when mixed)
1 cup Soy milk
1 Teaspoon honey
Throw all of it in a blender (and no you don’t need a fancy vitamix I don’t have one) until next time happy sipping!
